What is fiber internet?
Fiber internet is a high-speed broadband technology that uses pulses of light to transmit data over ultra-thin strands of glass, also known as fiber-optic cables. Amazingly, fiber strands are as thin as human hairs! Fiber technology ensures a faster and more reliable internet connection compared to traditional services like cable, DSL, satellite or fixed wireless. What’s the difference between fiber and cable internet?
Fundamentally, cable internet uses thick copper coaxial cables to transmit data, while fiber internet uses thin fiber optic cables to do this. Copper data transmission technology has been around since the days of the telegraph, while fiber optic technology started gaining commercial traction in the late 1970’s and has quickly become the backbone of all communications systems around the world.
As compared to cable internet, fiber internet is much more reliable in all weather conditions, has greater capacity, enables faster speeds, lasts longer, and is initially more expensive to deploy yet is easier to maintain longer-term. What are symmetrical upload and download speeds?
Symmetrical speeds mean you get the same speeds for uploads and downloads – something that’s only possible at higher speeds with fiber internet. For example, if you have a 1 Gbps plan, you will be able to upload and download at 1 Gbps, ensuring fast and smooth performance for activities like video calls and gaming, even if these are happening at the same time by various members of your family around the house.
What’s the difference between Mbps and Gbps?
Mbps (megabits per second) and Gbps (gigabits per second) measure internet speed. 1 Gbps is 1,000 times faster than 1 Mbps. To illustrate the difference, a one-hour 4K movie would take 115 hours to download over a 1 Mbps connection, whereas over a 1 Gbps connection it would only take 1 minute!

How many devices can I stream at once with fiber internet?
Ultimately, it depends on the speed plans you choose. The higher the speeds, the more devices you can stream, and with fiber internet you can reliably stream many more devices when compared with other internet technologies.

Why are you digging along my street?
We’re busy laying fiber-optic cables underground to bring you high-speed internet! This involves directional boring to securely install the cables, protecting them from damage and ensuring a continuous reliable connection for your home.
Do you have to dig in my yard to install?
In most instances, we will need to dig a micro-trench in your yard to bury the fiber-optic cable connected to your home. Rest assured, we strive to minimize disruption and will restore your yard to its original condition. We’re here to make the process as smooth as possible!
How long does fiber take to install?
After connecting the fiber to your home from the front right-of-way or rear easement, Lyte Fiber’s in-home installation process typically takes just 2 to 3 hours. Our dedicated team of in-house installation technicians will connect the fiber-optic cable to your home, set up your equipment, and test everything to ensure you’re ready for Lyte-ning fast internet!
Do I need to be home for installation?
Yes, it’s very important for you to be there! Our professional and courteous W-2 installation technicians may need to drill holes or run cables through walls, and they’ll want your input on where best to place your fiber-optic router and any wireless extenders for optimal coverage. How will I pay my bill?
Lyte Fiber’s billing is very simple—it’s a monthly service billed in advance via an autodraft from either your credit/debit card or bank account. When you sign up for service, you’ll enter your payment information via our secure online portal. Once you receive service, your bill will be paid automatically at the same time each month from your payment information on file, just like a Netflix or other streaming TV service. You can change your payment information at any time on our portal.
What if I get lower speeds than my plan says?
As part of the Lyte Fiber Lifetime Price and Reliability Guarantee, we’re committed to delivering the speeds you are paying for!
